Imagine you're managing operations for one of Europe’s largest automotive factories, where the production line rolls out 2 million cars annually. Every minute matters. But every minute also has the potential for costly unplanned production downtimes—machine breakdowns, material flaws, and other disruptions. In 2023, unplanned downtimes cost the European manufacturing sector approximately $208 billion in losses. That’s where Vernaio’s Process Booster steps in, powered by AI to help production teams predict disruptions before they happen, reducing downtime and optimizing production efficiency.

Introduction by Lead Designer

As the Lead UX/UI Designer and Researcher for Process Booster, this project was a unique and challenging opportunity to harness the power of AI for industrial efficiency.


Our biggest challenge was turning assumptions into actionable insights. We quickly realized that without a clear understanding of how process engineers and machine operators navigate their day-to-day work, we were at risk of designing a product that didn’t meet real needs. My role was to lead our design and research efforts, ensuring that everything we built was rooted in user-centric principles and aligned with business goals.

Eliminating 30% of unnecessary features, streamlining the product to focus on what truly matters to the user.

Creating a modular architecture , reducing the risk of product adoption and allowing seamless integration with various industrial systems.

Reducing onboarding time by 65%, enabling new process engineers to become productive within days instead of weeks through intuitive interface and guided AI assistance.

Design Process: Empathy as Foundation

We didn’t rush to the drawing board. Instead, we prioritized learning about users as much as possible, recognizing the significant risk to product development posed by our limited insights into users' working environments.

User Research: Decoding the Industrial Mind

Despite the many constraints that come with being a startup—limited resources, time, and customer connections—we prepared and executed a comprehensive research plan. We immersed ourselves in users' real working environments, uncovering the ways they navigated downtimes and their specific pain points.


Early research unveiled a user landscape filled with complex workflows and constraints. This thorough research helped us eliminate many assumptions and resulted in a 30% increase in feature efficiency, ensuring our product aligned with real user needs. We discovered that integrating new tools in production faced a maze of strict industry regulations.

Solution: A Seamless Fusion of AI and Usability

Process Booster was designed modular to integrate seamlessly with any IT infrastructure. Customers with unique or custom-built ecosystems were able to integrate only the parts of Process Booster that fit their needs, ensuring the tool adapted to them—not the other way around. The intuitive interface provides real-time insights for both process engineers and operators, offering valuable, understandable reports that challenge existing process knowledge and introduce new perspectives.
